Sauti Ya Wanawake Pwani has a committed leadership led by the board and has won recognition locally and internationally. The secretariat is well composed with dedicated permanent staff to accomplish the activities of the organization towards the achievement of the mission and vision of the organization. The good financial system in place coupled with the high spirit of volunteerism among the members, have all helped the organization to move forward to its current state.
Violet Muthiga is a holder of a master’s degree in project planning and management and a graduate of Eastern Mennonite University-USA with a post graduate Diploma in Women’s leadership and Peacebuildiing. My expertise is in Gender, GBV, and Movement Building.
She has over 12 years of experience working as the C.E.O of Sauti Ya Wanawake Pwani, a grassroots women’s rights movement with over 9500 members and 44 “Sauti chapters”. Over the years she has managed Gender equality initiatives and focus on working with a grassroots women’s movement in advocating for laws and policies that protect women and girls. She has also received a peace champion Award for the coast region and sits in different Boards as a gender and inclusion Advisor. She is a believer that women have and will always be the strong ones of the world and for the world.
Bintiali is passionate about Women, girls, and children as well as an enthusiastic, self-motivated, reliable, responsible, and hard-working person. A mature team worker and adaptable to all challenging situations who works well both in a team environment as well as using her initiative. Bintiali was one of the founding mothers of the Sauti Ya Wanawake (SYW) network that now counts around 9,500 women organized in 48 chapters scattered across the Cost region of Kenya. Mama Bintiali has been mobilizing poor and marginalized women to speak up for their issues. I have managed to mentor women, young women, and children to speak for the issues affecting them. Binti Ali has been pushing for women’s rights and equality in all aspects of life and from different angles, the reason why she actively mobilized women towards forming Sauti Ya Wanawake Org is to see the women, girls, and children being empowered and enjoy their rights. Mama Binti has made strides in mobilizing women and girls to get into leadership positions.
Millicent Odhiambo is a Bachelor of Science in Psychology graduate with a diploma in physiotherapy and a higher diploma in counseling, and she is currently completing her Master’s in project management. With extensive experience and expertise, she has played a crucial role in promoting positive change and empowering communities, particularly women and youth.
She serves as a board member of Sauti Ya Wanawake, a prominent organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of women and girls. In her role as treasurer, she ensures transparency and accountability in financial matters, supporting the organization’s grassroots initiatives and empowering women through education, awareness campaigns, and access to resources. She has also contributed to shaping the organization’s strategic direction, overseeing its activities, and promoting awareness and prevention of SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence).
She is also the co-founder of Bunge la Wanawake Kenya, an organization dedicated to empowering women and promoting their rights. This initiative has enabled her to create forums for women to participate in policymaking and to foster their leadership skills.
Doris is among the few women in Tana River inspiring change in the community. Doris is the acting chairperson of the Wenje Sauti chapter and also she is the advisor of the chapter. She serves in several committees such as the Agricultural Committee as the chairperson; the School Committee as the secretary and a pastor of the Kingdom Glory church. Mostly Doris does case follow-up and recently a man who defiled a 14-year-old girl was given a sentence of 15 years. She also participates in mediation especially when solving minor cases.
Being in the school committee Doris works closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure a 100 percent transition of pupils from primary school to junior secondary and secondary schools.

A dedicated leader who champions education and women and girls’ rights and has been at the forefront of leading her community members to take their children to school. Being a board member of Sauti and the vice chair has enabled her to carry out her tasks well, especially in her community. Bibiana comes from Kilifi County where challenges with education are seen, as a Sauti chairperson from the Gongoni she has been mobilizing parents to take back to school their girls who have given birth instead of marrying them off currently more than twenty girls have gone back to school some completed form four while others are still in schools. Bibiana is the treasurer of the Sauti Ya Wanawake Magarini umbrella and personally creates awareness of Violence Against Women and girls through the process Bibiana has been able to do cases follow-up from the initial stage to the court and out of the many cases she is proud that about twenty cases have been concluded in court and justices for the survivor achieved. Most of the cases were defilement cases and some perpetrators suffered jail sentences ranging from 50 years to and minimum being 3 years.
Lydia is passionate about fighting for the rights of women and girls in Taita Taveta County. She uses every opportunity to ensure that girls do not face many challenges in the pursuit of their education.Lydia is currently a board member of Sauti Ya Wanawake Pwani
A board member at Sauti Ya Wanawake Pwani and Secretary at Sauti Ndavaya chapter. Mbeyu is a mentor and facilitator on issues of human rights and gender equality. She ensures that young girls are empowered with information and education on women’s and girls’ rights; and on decision-making. Mbeyu believes that we can build a better future for all.
Munira is from Lamu East and chair lady at Lamu East Sauti chapter. She is currently a board member at Sauti Ya Wanawake Pwani. She is an ambitious community volunteer with a track record of developing relationships on a variety of levels and a passion for improving the lives of young but also elderly people by engaging in various outreach activities and educating the community.Munira Athman serves on several committees in Lamu East. She is a member of the Peace Committee, Lamu Court Users Committee, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee. Munira advocates for gender equality, Peace and development, promoting human rights, and building the capacity of local women to participate in peacebuilding and development activities.In the Lamu Court Users Committee Munira pushes the judiciary to prioritize cases of sexual offenses in nature especially those that involve women and children. Also, provide psychosocial support to survivors of SGBV.
